Artist Statement

I strive to create works that discover magic in the ordinary, blend reality with the impossible, and explore the boundaries of the mind and human experience.

With each drawing, I attempt to invite the viewer to join me in a celebration of the lines and patterns that make up all living things. For me, this continuity and repetition reflect an underlying theme that I feel called upon to share -- the idea that we are all ONE.

The act of creation is very meditative for me, and I discover something new with each piece.

I frequently depict children in my artwork. I see them as keepers of the collective unconscious. They remember more of life's secrets; and I have a deep respect for their wisdom.

Each of my pieces can be experienced on several levels. It’s up to you: view what it says on the surface or delve much deeper. There is always something more I am trying to say.

Artist Bio

Born and raised in Rochester, New York, Kristina has been telling stories ever since she first learned to talk. In her earlier days, she focused primarily on writing as a means of expression, earning a B.A. in writing from St. Lawrence University and an M.A. in magazine journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. After launching The Next Step Magazine, now a national career and guidance magazine for teens, Kristina began to write stories for younger children.

While taking some time off to have children of her own, Kristina focused on developing another passion that has been with her since her childhood: drawing and illustration. She is self-taught in her medium of pen and ink; and she now shares her enthusiasm for this art form with many other adults and children through the classes she teaches at the Cascade Art Center at Rochester Art Supply, in Rochester, NY and the Handweaving Museum and Craft School in Clayton, NY. Her drawings have won numerous awards, including several Best of Show honors, and have been featured in art shows and galleries across New York State.
